Sainik School/Rashtriya Military schools Written Exam Coaching

Sainik schools

Sainik Schools, as we know it, are purely meant for young men who wish to serve the nation. My knowledge was limited to this single statement. However, there is a lot more as we shall see in this article. Sainik when translated means ‘Soldier’; these are a system of schools in India established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the imbalance caused by religion, class, and creed among the Officer cadre of the Indian Military and to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Naval Academy (INA). Today there are 25 such schools across India. These schools come under the purview of the respective state governments and Ministry of Defence. These schools admit only boys and as the name suggests, they are groomed into little soldiers who will, later on, grow to serve the Nation.

Admission Procedure

Admission to all Sainik Schools is only meant for boys and the entrance examination is organized for admission to class VI & IX. Students who are between the age of 10-11 years and 13-14 years respectively on 1st July of the year in which they wish to take the admission are entitled to take the examination. For getting admission into class IX, boys need to be studying in class VIII in a recognized school. Please note that admissions are done strictly on the basis of merit only in classes VI and IX.

Sainik Schools are fully residential schools run on public school lines. All the schools are members of All India Public Schools Conference. They offer a common curriculum and are affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi.
